Not quite 5 minutes to do my fence, but I have to say, it kicks ass vs. spending all day with a brush and roller. Also, it costs about as much as would a paint/stain sprayer – before you buy the materials. I was looking for prices on fence stain, when I came across this product. After watching the demo vid clip, Marla and I decided it’d be worth a try. It doesn’t quite work like the one on camera, and that’s to be expected. I had a bit of trouble with the 1st bottle’s nozzle (bad gasket) and had to learn quick and adjust on-the-fly. The last bottle worked perfectly. I found myself wantingto do more fence!
Here you can see most of the run of our backyard fence; it’s about 52′. Overall, we have something like 90′ of fence. Getting around the trees was a bit of a challenge, but the 8′ sections in the clear literally took about 45 seconds to do. I think I did the entire back side of the fence (from the neighboring yard) in about 7 minutes. 52′ in 7 minutes. You do the math. And the majority of the work was done-done (still had to roll the top horiz. plane). [Aside: We had a retaining wall built to legally raise our fence over 6', and we still need to backfill. Hence the exposed 2x12s.]
Here’s a closeup of the application. Note the proximity to the house on the left. This part was just like the video: I turned the nozzle to H2O and just sprayed down the stain that oversprayed onto the house. Nice!
So I’d have to say that we spent about 4 hours in toto to complete the project. It took from 12:00 – 4:00 pm on a Sunday. In reality, the work bursts summed up probably amount to 30-40 minutes. One long hiatus occured when we had to knock on our neighbor’s door twice to get permission to enter his backyard (damn renters). I went over and knocked – no one answered, but I could see movement in the f-ing peep hole. Duh! So Marla went over while I took a break between sides and stood there until the creep came to the door. I guess he got scared, ‘cos he got in his car and drove off before I could walk around to the back. Weird-o.
Anyway – mad props for 5-Minute Fence Stain. Btw, it’s acrylic, NOT oil-based, so washing up is a snap.

so are you happy or mad???
What they fail to mention is clean up is NOT a snap. Overspray onto neighbor houses, concrete and sheds do NOT come off. Im writing the company now to see if they have a product to remove these stains but Im sure they do not. The container I purchased did NOT say you have to remove overspray IMMEDIATELY. This his horrible !!
Well, I’d have to say on the whole I am happy with the product. I would use it again, and if I was a fencing contractor I would not hesitate to use it. I think now I have some experience with it, I will be able to cut into the prep and wait times.
I just used it, and am very dissappointed, it was too good to be true i guess, there was more stain on me and the grass than actually on the fence, it splashes back so bad its rediculous.
I spent over $100 on this product. It didn’t mix the water and chemical well. Sometimes just water would come out then just stain. The water would wash the stain off. I thought it was a deffective bottle so I tried 3 of them. They all did the same thing. I tried to return them and was systematically ignored and given the blow off until my 30 days was up then they claimed it was past 30 days. DO NOT BUY THIS. The company is dishonest. I ended up using a wagonor electric sprayer and fences stain from a discounter and paid less than I lost at 5-minute fence company.
My wife and I tried the product and loved it. It was so easy, and the fence still looks good after almost 3 years.
I used 5-minute fence about 2 years ago on about 100′ of fence. It worked as advertised albeit a little messier than I expected. Did the entire thing in an afternoon and the result looked great. Moved from that house since then but the last time I went by the fence still looked nice. Good product in my opinion.
This product is terrible – end of story. I bought it because it seemed incredible – but DON’T believe the marketing! It’s a mess to use, drips, doesn’t coat evenly, the sprayer is so unreliable that it sprays everywhere over everything – it’s a terrible product. But worse than that is the company wouldn’t take it back. Check out their website – no where do they give any contact info other than an email form. No one responded to my querries. Finally, after threats they asked me to fill out a form for an RMA # but then never sent me the number! It’s a total scam – do NOT purchase anything from this company! BEWARE!!! They are frauds!!!
It appears they have some quality control issues, based on the mixed reviews. Sorry you had such a bad experience…
I posted my review of 5MFS here, along with a couple of pictures:

Overall I think it has good potential, but there’s a steep learning curve to get the thing to do what its supposed to.
I still have neighbors pissed off at me for using this. The sprayer goes all over the place and ALL over spray needs to be taken care of NOW. Not when you finish the small area but NOW. The co does not carry a remover product and the stain has already faded from my fence. Waste of money, time and product.
Our fence still looks good, though I have to agree with you that the overspray is a problem. Our fence is not near any other homes, so we got lucky in that regard. Still in all, with what I know now, I would use it again.
